 GPS AND GIS MAPPING
Oxbow is well equipped to conduct various mapping projects related to wetland resource areas and habitat features using the latest satellite mapping and navigation technology.

Oxbow's Global Position System (GPS) hardware includes three Trimble GeoXT (<1m accuracy) units interface with ArcView (software) and public Geographic Information Systems (GIS, e.g., MassGIS) to provide an incredibly efficient method to combine field surveys and available natural resource databases from GIS.

For example, recently Oxbow was contracted to evaluate a +/-300 acre wooded site in southeastern Massachusetts (Bristol & Plymouth counties) for wetlands and rare species issues. Within three weeks we flagged the wetlands in the field (>500 flags), overlayed all the flag locations, property bounds and other features (i.e., potential vernal pools) on a color aerial orthophotograph for our clients to make an important decision about the feasibility of their project. Although the project propoenents ultimately decided not to purchase the parcel, Oxbow's field and GPS/GIS services allowed our clients to obtain sufficient information to make their decision much faster and less expensive compared to conventional survey methods.
